The tension with China over tariffs is opening a new front in Mexico’s trade relations.
Mexico has chosen not to disrupt its commercial status quo and to keep its economic strategy aligned with U.S. interests, while also scoring points with domestic manufacturers.
The United States and China will negotiate in Madrid to find a resolution to their tariff dispute.
Both countries will send trade delegations to the Spanish capital in an effort to settle the issue, officials confirmed on Friday. The high-level meeting will be attended by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng.

The United States is conducting investigations into several sectors that could lead to additional tariffs, including pharmaceuticals. Trump announced on Tuesday that he will specify these duties next week; they will initially be low but are expected to rise to 150% and 250% next year.
